First Day of School... 2010

Well, as you can tell it's been an entire year since I last posted a picture. My scrapbooks haven't been kept up much better. My Creative Memories consultant ran into some family trouble and hasn't been hosting events except for "World's Largest Crop" in April. I did manage to finish (except for some last-minute touches) my 2008 book during that time (it's an all-day crop, 9am-8pm).

Remembering the last post, and seeing as how we had time to spare this morning (don't be jealous!) I sat the kids down in the same spot and took some pictures. These are the ones that didn't need some editing (Aaron's singletons were overexposed a bit, which I can clean up electronically). I've got a second grader and a Kindergartner! Both walked into school with ease, never casting a glance back at Mom, not a blink when I said goodbye. I think it helps that the school holds an Open House a couple days before the first day so that both students and parents know where the classrooms are and who the teachers are. Plus, Julia has Aaron's Kindergarten teacher, so she knows her already.

First Grade!

Today is Aaron's first day of first grade! He is so excited to carry a lunch box to school. I hope he's just as excited to bring it back home (LOL). We met his teacher Monday night at the Open House for the school. She seems very nice and organized, so I'm certain she'll make sure all the lunch boxes are sent home.

Aaron didn't want me to walk him to school, so I said that was OK as long as a could take a picture first:

Of course Julia wanted to go to school, too, and was disappointed when I announced that school wouldn't start for her for three weeks yet. She seemed to take it in stride (you never know with her whether she'll accept it or scream), but I don't think she has the concept of a "week" yet. Anyway, she'll be excited to go when her turn comes regardless.

Really! I wanted a picture for Grammy's birthday, so I parked the kids outside in front of the spirea bushes, took a few pictures, decided I didn't like the shadows on their faces, turned them a bit north, and tried again. As I was getting ready, Julia turned her head and gave her brother a peck on the cheek! I snapped the photo and luckily got a good frame and focus. "I'd rather be lucky than good," the saying goes. Needless to say, Grammy loved the picture!
